Set of compass-leg Result chairs by Friso Kramer for Ahrend de Cirkel, Netherlands. These chairs were first designed in collaboration with Wim Rietveld in 1957, and won the Signe d'Or.
The chairs are from the first series, with folded steel metal frames in light grey, and plywood seats and backrests. They are in very good vintage condition with some signs of wear to the enameling on the chair frame and to the wooden seats & backrests, consistent with age and use. Each chair has its rubber feet in place, and is marked with the Ahrend stamp on the back of the frame.
Friso Kramer (Netherlands 1922) is a highly influential designer. He produced numerous pieces for De Cirkel in the period 1948-63; he then founded the Total Design bureau with Wim Crouwel, Benno Wissing, Paul and Dick Schwartz. His designs are now highly sought after and a plastic version of his "Revolt" chair was reissued by Ahrend in 2004. In 2013 the Revolt was celebrated in a unique exhibition at Galerie Catherine Houard in Paris.
