A set of two Revolt chairs by Friso Kramer (1922-2019) for Ahrend, Netherlands.

Designed in 1953, the Revolt chair is perhaps Friso Kramer's most famous design, typically produced with coloured panels for both seat and back-rest. This set is a very unusual combination of plywood panels, with white Ciranol armrests which have an off-black cross-section. The folded metal frame is a very pale grey (almost white), and the set probably date to the 1960s. For us, the sculptural design could work in wide range of settings, from industrial studio to dining room to art gallery.

Overall the chairs are in nice vintage condition with age and use-appropriate wear throughout, and a warm industrial patina. All shaped feet are in place. The Ahrend stamp is on the reverse of the frame. Being work pieces, we have categorised the condition as in "fair"; see images for examples.

Approximate dimensions:
H 78cm x D* 52cm x W 60cm at arms Seat height: 47cm Arm rest height: 68cm

* Overall depth is measured between the centre top of backrest and centre front of seat.

Images are taken in natural light and image 3 gives a close approximation of colour. The final image gives an example of this model in context, with other original mid-century pieces by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld for Ahrend. Drop us a note here for more details or images.
