A pair of large bronze arts and crafts door handles, each with a heavy ring handle, one pierced for a key. Early twentieth century, found in England.
The handles are a simple design, unusual to see, made from cast and sheet bronze with a warm aged patina and weathering throughout. The ring handle lifts and turns, and can be positioned to display the decorated side, as shown in the main image, or plain. On the reverse square holes are visible, possibly for spindles (different sizes). There are signs of wear, as one might expect from age and use, including scratches, small holes and changing tones from handling. See images for examples and overview; images are taken in natural light from the left.
Approximate dimensions per piece:
H: 16.6cm back plate only or 18.5cm including the ring
W: 23.2cm
D: 3.5cm including bracket
Weight: 1.5-1.6kg per piece
Each handle is fixed in place through small holes in the corners of the back plate, using screws to suit the thickness and style of your door and the weight of the metal (fixings not supplied).
