Square glass light - model Hippolyt - by Kalmar Franken of Austria, designed late 1960s or early 1970s.
The light comprises fives panels of clear dispersion glass on a white metal frame, held in place by clear nylon fittings. The neutral hardware gives focus to the glass which is textured on both sides: the inner face is ribbed, while the outer face has an organic design, redolent of rippling water. These pieces were originally offered by Kalmar as ceiling flush mounts; alternatively they could be mounted as wall lights.
Dimensions (per image 1): H 32cm x W 32cm x D 13cm exc nylon fixings
The mounting plate is smaller than the glass, and the side panels are 10cm wide; this leaves a small shadow gap between the glass and the mounting surface.
The piece is in good original condition with wear in line with age and use, including wear to the finish of the mounting plate and, due to the age and nature of these pieces, there may be small imperfections or nicks in the glass. Each fixture takes four bulbs of small screw-fitting (E14). Price includes new wiring for the UK.
Please note these are heavy fixtures and suitable installation is required. The lights will be dismantled for shipping.
