A simple but striking desk lamp with large saucer-shaped shade, manufactured by LBL of Germany. Designed 1950s, this example is dated 1962. The shade is black on the outside, and white inside, and the angle can be adjusted through the joint on the lamp-holder. Unusual to see a lamp of this style in such a large size (approximately 43cm).
Overall the lamp is in good condition and, due to the size and design of the shade, it gives good task lighting. The shade has kept a good shape, with only minor signs of movement. The outer shade has been refinished otherwise the paintwork is original, and there are minor signs of wear as one might expect, including some light spots of wear on the shade. We recommend the use of a low-heat bulb to protect the fixture for the future. The brass stem has a nice patina, and the lamp is labelled to the underside. New brass switch (images 4 & 5).
Dimensions:
H: 41cm
W: 45cm (when shade is horizontal as in the main picture)
D: 43cm (equivalent to the diameter of the shade).
The shade can be removed for shipping.

LBL (short for VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig) emerged from the Kandem business which was associated with the Bauhaus in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Designers who worked with the company included Marianne Brandt who worked with Christian Dell at the Bauhaus metal-working department.
We have a similar lamp available in French grey with brass details. Please drop us a note if you would like more information or images on either piece.
