A large sculptural door handle in organic form with stylized salamander motif. Mid-20th century European. Unsigned.
A heavy piece - looks to be bronze - with very nice changing tones from use; we have not polished this piece and it retains a heavy patina. There are minor signs of wear in line with age and use, including light scratches and pitting. Sound of small deposits inside the handle from the casting - only apparent if shaken.
The handle is attached to the door through two bolts, which screw into holes on the reverse of the handle. The fixed position of the bolts do not dictate the orientation of the shape, but they do suggest the handle was made for a large door, possibly on a public building or church.
Approximate dimensions:
Measuring as in the main image (exc mounting): H 21.2cm x W 21.2cm x D 7cm
When the handle bolt holes are set flat against the door, the face of door to thickest part of the handle is approximately 12.2cm
Approximate weight: 3.5kg
