Large neoclassical style ceiling light fixture of hammered iron with gilt finish. European, probably Spanish or French, early to mid-20th century (c 1940s).

A really striking fixture with three layers of curved acanthus leaves, in the shape of a crown or sunburst, around a diffuser of frosted glass, held in place by six small leaf-shaped brackets.

This piece can be positioned as a ceiling light fixture, using or extending the existing frame, or can be hung as a pendant with a chain (typically with the small canopy removed). If installing close to the ceiling, access to the bulbs can be gained by removing the glass, otherwise simply replace from above.

The light is in very nice vintage condition with minor signs of wear to both gilt crown and glass, as one might expect from a piece of its age and design. In the detail, there is minor twisting of some of the leaves; a couple of rubs to the glass, and some wear to the gilt finish, though overall the shape is good, and these points are subtle - for us this piece wears its age very well. Renewed wiring taking three large screw-fitting (E27) bulbs - low heat bulbs recommended.

Approx Dimensions:
Dia at outermost tips of leaves: 63cm
Dia Glass: 50cm
H 18cm (bottom of glass to top of leaves)
H 27cm (bottom of glass to top of small canopy visible in images 4)

The glass will be removed for shipping; wiring section can also be removed if required.

Please note this is a heavy fixture and will require suitable installation.
