Large Mid-Century drum-shaped flush mount light by Kaiser Leuchten, Germany, 1960s.
The circular glass shade comprises two elements of textured clear glass pinned to a metal frame with screw-in metal fixings. The sides of the shade are formed by a single piece of glass wrapped into a ring, with a separate disc diffusing the light from below. These are impressive pieces of glass which, for us, evoke the glass work of Finnish designer, Tapio Wirkkala.
The flush mount is in good original condition, with minor signs of wear in line with age, use and the nature of the piece including some signs of wear to the inner frame (not visible in use) and a couple of slightly rough spots on the outer rim of the glass. The fixture has renewed wiring with the original ceramic bulb-holders, and takes four large screw fitting bulbs. The metal frame is white inside with a metallic finish to the outer edge; it has its original cable cover in the centre which means the electrical cabling connections are not visible through the glass. An original paper label is no the frame.
Dimensions:
Diameter 49cm.
Height of light when assembled 15cm; height of glass ring only 12cm this small difference creates a shadow gap when installed.
