A simple but striking desk lamp with large saucer-shaped shade, manufactured by LBL of Germany, labelled 1960. The shade is ivory-coloured on the outside, and white inside, and can be adjusted through the joint on the lamp-holder. Unusual to see a lamp of this style in such a large size (approximately 43cm).

Overall the lamp is in good condition, and the size and design of the shade give good task lighting. The shade has kept a good shape, with only minor signs of movement. The paintwork has been refinished (probably in the last ten years); the work has been sensitively done to match the original colour of the base, and there are minor signs of earlier and later wear as one might expect. The brass stem has an aged patina. The wiring has been renewed, with a new switch collar, and we recommend the use of a low-heat bulb to protect the fixture for the future. The lamp is labelled to the underside.

Dimensions:
Height 41cm x width 45cm (when shade is horizontal as in the main picture)
Depth 43cm (equivalent to the diameter of the shade).

We have a black version of this lamp available. Please contact us here if you would like more details or images of either piece.

LBL (short for VEB Leuchtenbau Leipzig) emerged from the Kandem business which was associated with the Bauhaus in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Designers who worked with the company included Marianne Brandt who worked with Christian Dell in the Bauhaus metal-working department.
