Modular shelving system or room divider attributed to Dassi of Milan, Italy 1950s.
A sophisticated design with lots of interesting detail. The system is designed to enable the user to position the shelves and storage units according to their own needs. The images show the set in a room with ceiling height of just over 3m. The uprights also have optional metal inserts, which add further height, and locate on the ceiling. All components are finished to all sides, to enable the set to be used as a room divider; and for this reason the uprights do not fix to the back wall.
The set is in fair original condition with signs of wear as one might expect from age and use, including some crazing of the varnish. The black lacquered lighting track at the top is a very nice feature, with pierced detailing to the metal; the trays will need new strips or bulbs installed, and we recommend this is carried out in situ to ensure it meets your local needs.
Dimensions:
Height of the uprights: 3m without extension poles
Width of three bays as shown: 249cm
Depth of the deepest component (two cupboards): 44cm
Dassi of Milan were known to produce high quality furniture, and worked with notable designers including Gio Ponti (a similar set has been attributed to Ponti at auction, however we cannot confirm the designer).
