A small table totem lamp by ceramicist Bernard Rooke - double-sided - featuring Rooke's hieroglyphics and blue glass detail. Late 1960s, England.
The lamp is in nice original condition with particularly clear markings and even execution, while still retaining the look and feel of beautifully hand-crafted work. The overall tone is natural sandy beige with darker markings and lighter glazed side panels near the base. The central section features a pool of blue glass on one side and a circular inscribed motif on the other. As is usual with the earlier pieces this lamp is unsigned.
Wiring:
The wiring is original and we advise this is tested/replaced as required in the country of install. The existing switched lamp-holder takes a single bayonet-fitting bulb, and we recommend the use of a low heat model.
Shade:
The lamp is shown here with a simple hessian shade, newly made based on the proportions of period fitments. The lamp can be shipped with or without the shade.
Approximate dimensions:
Ceramic only:
Height: 28cm
Depth: 7.2cm at base
Width: 11.8cm at centre
Overall, including shade as shown: 56cm
