Studio ceramic sculpture by Clive Brooker, England 1960s.
Handmade pottery, with strong silhouette and brutalist feel. The outer surface is charcol in colour - very deep brown - with matte finish and the texture of sand, with sgraffito lines; the bowl is finished with blue-green glaze. Brooker described his blue glazes as inspired by the Caribbean sea.
This is a striking work: for us it stands well as sculpture, and it could possibly also work as a candlestick or vase/vessel with shallow bowl. If used as a vessel we would suggest using a suitable liner to protect the finish. Very good vintage condition with minor surface wear in line with age and use. The piece sits very nicely alongside a second Brooker piece in our collection (see image 5), please contact us if you would like further details of that piece.
