A monumental ceramic TOTEM floor lamp by Bernard Rooke. Mid-20th century, England.
The totem is made up of complex cast ceramic elements in natural brown tones. Good original condition, with wear in line with age and use; signed to the side of the base as shown.
Shade:
The piece is shown here with its original shade, covered in split cane, which is unusual to see in this size, and which gives a warm glow to the light.
The shade is in fair vintage condition: good overall shape, with some losses to the cane, and breaks to the shade. The shade can be included with the lamp, if required, together with the recent shade carrier used for these images, but please be aware this may impact shipping costs.
Wiring:
The wiring is original and will need to be replaced. We advise this is done locally to install to ensure it meets your needs and local regulations. The wire leaves the base on the side.

Bernard Rooke was born in 1938, and studied ceramics at Goldsmiths College in London. In 1960 he set up a workshop in Forest Hill sharing with another pottery artist, Alan Wallwork; he later left London to continue his ceramic work and painting in Suffolk. His work is found in private collections as well as museums and galleries around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
