A rectangular teak wall mirror by Hans-Agne Jakobsson. Made in Åhus, Sweden, 1950s. Labelled to the reverse.
A very simple rectangular mirror with teak frame from the early years of Jakobsson's own work. The elegant frame is nicely made, and decorated to both long sides with inlay in very deep brown. This form of paper-based decoration is found on other Jakobsson designs of the Åhus years, and the repeating pattern reminds us of his later mahogany ply hand mirror.
The piece is in good overall condition, with minor age-appropriate wear. The glass is generally good with a couple of areas of light staining along the top edge and small signs of wear elsewhere. The frame has light marks, a tiny lift to the decoration top left, and on the reverse there are old fixing holes and a spot where the ply has lifted. The frame has been maintained with oil in the past and the wood has a smooth aged patina. The teak appears mid brown in moderate light, with the warmer/brighter tones in direct light.
